What' the spark that sets your soul on fire?

Creativity Doubts Purpose Spark

Ever get that feeling inside where you get a fleeting moment of excitement? A flutter of interest, something that ignites a spark inside? A fleeting thought of, wow that looks interesting. Or I’d love to do that. Or just a warm, comfortable feeling of ‘this is exactly where I should be, doing exactly what I should be doing’. Those moments are precious and are here to guide us towards our true nature. Imagine living life by that spark. Having that feeling every time you wake up excited by the prospect of the day ahead. You CAN live like that, many people do.

As a child and a young adult, I used to follow my dreams and ideas excitedly. I had fewer frames of reference to whether they would actually work. I would see something, say, YES, I’d like to do that and do it. If I enjoyed it, I would carry on doing it, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t. It was quite simple. I wonder why that becomes more difficult as we get older? For me, sometimes it’s fear and doubt that start creeping in, start telling me that I might not be good enough, or I’d best stick to what I know, what I’m comfortable with.

I’ve made a pact with myself to push through those thoughts and listen to my spark, honor my inner creative and follow it to wherever it takes me. And it’s brought me here to Tempo and I am committed to living by my spark and keeping it alive.

Want to find your spark?
1. Be aware. To recognise that spark, you must be aware,
look for it and be prepared to capture it when it comes along. That means allowing space for it in your life. Journalling is a great way of doing this.
2. Don’t question it. Just feel it. If it’s something you feel is ‘out of your league’ or impractical, let that thought go and let the feeling rule for a while.
3. Let go. To bring anything new into our life, we have to be prepared to let go of preconceived ideas and beliefs that tell us otherwise. Like, that’s too expensive, you’ll never be good enough to do that, who do you think you are to think you could be doing THAT!
4. Capture it. Write it down. Create a mood board. put it somewhere prominent, or start a journal where you collect thoughts.
5. Focus on the spark. Increase the power of the spark so that it becomes the primary focus in your everyday life.
